    Recent Equipment Rules Q&A - Aft Head Point

    Which one of 1, 2 or 3 is the aft head point in this diagram?

    Answer

    “A”, “B” and “C” are all parts of the leech and the aft head point shall be taken at the point where the extension of “A” intersects with the line through the head point and 90°to the luff.

    “1" is the aft head point in this case. Applicable ERS rules: G.4.2 and G.5.5

    IRC rule notice 2012/02 Headsail foot offset

    Several Sailmakers have intentionally attempted to circumvent IRC rules 2.4 and 2.5 by developing headsail foot shelf profiles that artificially reduce the headsail measurements, reducing the IRC rating without a corresponding reduction in performance. IRC Rule Notice 2012/02 addresses this issue with the introduction of Headsail Foot Shelf.

    The 2012 revalidation form is now available in the download section.

    IRC 2011 Certificates will expire on the 31st May, and will switch over to 2012 from the 21st May 2012.

    Please note that NO 2011 certificates can be run or updated after this date.

    Question about setting a furling headsail.

    We often have questions about setting furling headsails. The IRC Rule for a single furling headsail says: "The boat has a complete headsail furling system". Can the sail be tacked on deck instead of to the furling drum and still be able to enjoy the rating credit?"
