Question about setting a furling headsail.

We often have questions about setting furling headsails.

IRC Rule 21.8.2 about single furling headsail says: "The boat has a complete headsail furling system". Can the sail be tacked on deck instead of to the furling drum and still be able to enjoy the rating credit?"
    Answer:
IRC Rule 21.8.1 states: “ Boats may apply for a rating credit for using a single roller furling headsail. To be eligible….”
A boat which tacks the headsail to the deck instead of to the furling drum is not using a roller furling headsail because the sail cannot be rolled up without re-positioning the tack.
The boat would therefore not be eligible for the rating credit for a single roller furling headsail.
